Dickie Valentine's 1955 song, 'Christmas Alphabet', was the
first Christmas song to make Number 1 in the UK. Hard to believe
really but they've been coming thick and fast ever since. Not that
there's anything approaching thick or fast about 'Christmas
Alphabet', its slow deliberate and sweet direction is the kind of
stuff that marks a true family holiday. It was one of two number
ones enjoyed by the British singer who died tragically in a car
crash in the early 1970's.
