Andrea Bocelli Christmas Songs & Music

With his powerful operatic voice, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli can make magic out of any song he sings. However, it was not until 2009, almost twenty years into his career, that Bocelli decided to spread a little Christmas cheer. In December that year, he released his first yuletide album, and with it came a number of live performances and Christmas television specials.

2009: My Christmas

Andrea Bocelli chose a collection of traditional holiday favourites for his first ever seasonal album. The album features English classics like The Christmas Song, along with several carols in French, German and Bocelli’s native Italian. The singer gives an operatic treatment to carols such as Angels We Have Heard on High and Silent Night, while songs like Santa Claus is Coming to Town are performed with a more pop influence, making the album accessible to fans of both musical styles. The album includes collaborations with a number of well-known artists across a broad range of musical genres. Katherine Jenkins, Reba McEntire, Mary J. Bilge, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and even Jim Henson’s Muppets all contribute, bringing a diverse flavour to the entire album. The album’s one original track; God Bless Us Everyone, was used for the closing credits in the 2009 film A Christmas Carol. Bocelli celebrated the release of the album with a number of Christmas themed tours, including leading a record-breaking mass choir in a rendition of Silent Night at Leicester Square in London. A live performance of the album, complete with guest artists, was recorded at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles and was broadcast repeatedly across the US and Europe.
