Barbra Streisand Christmas Albums

A Christmas Album

1967: A Christmas Album

Barbra Streisand’s first Christmas album kicks off with a racing version of Jingle Bells. The rest of the eleven tracks however are a far more subdued mix of traditional carols, show songs and beautifully sung hymns. When it was released in 1967, A Christmas Album spent five weeks on top of the Billboard album charts and by 1999, it was certified quadruple platinum across the United States. The intriguing picture on this original album cover is a photo taken during rehearsals for Streisand’s concert A Happening in Central Park.

Christmas Memories

2001: Christmas Memories

Nearly forty years after her first holiday offering, Barbra Streisand released Christmas Memories; a fascinating and unique mix of yuletide songs. The album has a sophisticated jazz feel to it, including more adult Christmas tunes like A Christmas Love Song and What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve in place of traditional favourites like Rudolph and Frosty. Whilst the album does include some well-known hits like I’ll Be Home For Christmas and Schubert’s Ave Maria, Christmas Memories provides a great list of lesser-known tracks that is sure to keep your Christmas music collections fresh.
