Barenaked Ladies Christmas Songs & Music

Canadian alternative rock group Barenaked Ladies are known for their quirky music and comedic live performances. When the band turned their talents to Christmas music, the result was a fun and light-hearted album without a serious Silent Night in sight.

Barenaked for Christmas

2004: Barenaked for Christmas

Barenaked Ladies dish up a mix of traditional carols and Hanukkah songs, original holiday tracks and a few giggle-worthy parodies. Whilst some of the traditional songs like I Saw Three Ships are played straight, others like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer are backed with cheesy organs and drum machines in what can only be tongue-in-cheek homage to the ‘good old days’ of traditional carols. The Ladies invite some friends along for the fun too, with memorable tracks featuring Michael Buble and Sarah McLachlan. Parodies of carols like Deck the Stills are interspersed throughout the album, along with a rendition of Jingle Bells, Batman Smells in which lead vocalist Steven Page breaks down laughing. Barenaked Ladies also include some of their own holiday themed tracks like Green Christmas and Christmastime (Oh Yeah). The resulting album is everything you would expect from this weird and wacky group. Whilst Barenaked for Christmas is a must-have for fans, it might be just a little too bizarre for those not familiar with the boys from Ontario.
