Dolly Parton Christmas Songs & Music

The Queen of Country Music is no stranger to spreading a little holiday cheer. As well as producing three seasonal albums, she has also lent her acting skills to holiday movies like A Smokey Mountain Christmas and Unlikely Angel. With a voice that just makes you feel good, it is little wonder Dolly Parton's holiday music has been successful. She has put her own sparkling twist on two Christmas albums which are both still big sellers today.

Dolly Parton Christmas Albums

Once Upon A Christmas

1984: Once Upon A Christmas

In 1984, Dolly Parton and fellow country star Kenny Rogers gave us the CBS Christmas special Kenny and Dolly: A Christmas to Remember. Though the video was never released, the accompanying album Once Upon A Christmas has become a true classic. The album features a combination of duets and solos from both artists and includes the singles The Greatest Gift of All and Hard Candy Christmas (which ironically, is not actually a Christmas song.) The track listing provides a great mix of holiday classics combined with several original songs penned by Parton herself. The album is rollicking good fun and demonstrates why these two artists have survived the test of time.

Home For Christmas

1990: Home For Christmas

In contrast to Dolly Parton’s earlier holiday album, Home For Christmas consists purely of Christmas standards. Parton puts her own unique spin of each of the tracks however, from a rocking Joy to the World to a twanging hoedown version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The warm and fuzzy element is through the roof with spoken reflections on the singer’s childhood Christmases in the Smoky Mountains. Whether this is endearing or cheesy is up for debate, but there is no denying the country star is at her best with this fun album.
