Glee Christmas Songs & Music

American musical comedy-drama series Glee has stormed into pop culture since its pilot was broadcast in 2009. The all-singing, all-dancing series focuses on a high school choir competing in the national competition circuit. The popularity of the show has spawned a series of young adult novels, a feature film and countless soundtrack albums, including what is bound to be just the first of many Christmas themed collections

2010: Glee: The Music; The Christmas Album

Like most of the soundtracks to come from the Glee series, the majority of the music from The Christmas Album is drawn from one particular episode. In this case, it is the suitably cheesy A Very Glee Christmas, an episode from the show’s hugely popular second series. Six of the twelve tracks including The Most Wonderful Day of the Year and We Need a Little Christmas are drawn directly from the show, whilst the Glee cast’s rendition of Last Christmas was released as a charity single on I-Tunes in 2009. Like much of the Glee soundtrack material, the songs lose some of their charm when taken out of the context of the show, and audiences are left with bubblegum sweet pop renditions of much-heard Christmas classics. Nonetheless, the young cast manages to drum up plenty of holiday cheer with their bright and infectious harmonies. The highlight however, is the guest appearance of k.d. lang, who steals the show with a moody rendition of You’re a Mean One, Mr Grinch.
