Jack Johnson Christmas CD

Jack Johnson Christmas Songs & Music

In the early 2000's, Hawaiian-born folk artist Jack Johnson made a short holiday album as a Christmas gift for his friends and family. Johnson's friends at Brushfire Records loved the album, but after a few years, decided it was time for something new. What resulted was the charity album This Warm December: A Brushfire Holiday, featuring tracks from Johnson along with other Brushfire artists.

2008: This Warm December: A Brushfire Holiday Vol 1

The album is named as such because it was recorded in the midst of a particularly warm summer, but the music itself delivers plenty of warm and fuzzies too. Jack Johnson contributes two tracks to the compilation; a simple folksy Someday at Christmas and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, a track taken from his original holiday gift album. Johnson adds his own Hawaiian inspired harmonies to this classic, giving it a chilled, summery twist. Joining Johnson on the album are fellow Brushfire artists including Matt Costa and Zee Avi, with 25% of proceeds going to aid children’s musical education.

2011: This Warm December: A Brushfire Holiday Vol 2

Brushfire backed up their first yuletide collection with the sequel for Christmas 2011. Johnson this time contributes two of his own holiday inspired originals, In the Morning and Angel (Holiday). In true Johnson fashion, the guitar on both tracks harks back to Hawaiian ukuleles. His relaxed vocals carry both pieces; in harmony with himself on In The Morning and accompanied by chiming xylophones throughout Angel.
