James Taylor Christmas Songs & Music

Singer, songwriter and guitarist James Taylor released more than sixteen albums over the course of his fifty year career, but it wasn't until 2004 that he gave Christmas music a try. Taylor claimed that the carols he recorded for his album had lived in his head for many years.

2004: James Taylor A Christmas Album

James Taylor brings some friends along to help out on this, his first holiday album. Trumpeter Chris Botti gets the record off to an exuberant start in Winter Wonderland, whilst Taylor’s duet with Natalie Cole in Baby, it’s Cold Outside is simply dreamy. Taylor brings a contemporary jazz flavour to traditional songs such as Santa Claus is Coming to Town and gives old favourite Jingle Bells a funky blues treatment. Taylor contrasts these upbeat hits with plaintive and elegant renditions of Some Children See Him and In the Bleak Midwinter. This album was initially released as a limited edition Hallmark special, however 2006 saw the re-release of the record under the name James Taylor at Christmas. The reissued album saw a slightly revised track listing, including an interesting cover of Joni Mitchell’s River.
