1999: Joy: A Holiday Album
Jewel’s Christmas album takes its listener on a musical journey though lush orchestrations, traditional carols, holiday themed originals and a couple of the singer’s more famous singles. Jewel is accompanied by choir and orchestra in the opening tracks; traditional classics such as Joy to the World and Silent Night. The album hits a change of pace half way through, with a childish and cute rendition of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, accompanied just with guitar plus the obligatory sleigh bells. Jewel’s moving hits Face of Love and Hands get a run with a Christmas themed twist, plus an exquisite new original, Gloria, inspired by Bach’s B Minor Mass. Joy was immensely popular in its year of release, garnering platinum sales across the US.
