Christmas With Julie Andrews

1963: Christmas With Julie Andrews

In her first seasonal album, Julie Andrews demonstrates how capable she is of conjuring up a majestic Christmas sound. Her renditions of O Come All Ye Faithful and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing are soaring, somehow emulating the power of an entire mass choir. Andrews’ formal delivery won’t suit those looking to rock around the Christmas tree, but her first holiday offering is everything her fans could have hoped for.

Christmas Treasure

Christmas Treasure: Christmas Treasure

Julie Andrews took a break from soundtrack albums for the 1968 holiday release Christmas Treasure. The album is a formal mix of sacred carols like Angels From the Realms of Glory combined with traditional hymns, with cheery party favourites not getting a run until the final track of Jingle Bells. Andrews is co-credited on the album with conductor and composer Andre Previn, who gave interesting and unusual arrangements to the album’s fourteen classic carols.
