Low Christmas CD

Low Christmas Songs & Music

Minnesota based indie rock group Low deliver their music with a sort of quiet, gentle dignity. Though their style is generally described as slowcore, the band themselves despise the term and pride themselves instead on their strikingly beautiful harmonies that soar over minimal accompaniment. Just as Low have made considerable contributions to the indie rock movement, their original and fresh Christmas album ensured they also left their mark on the holiday music genre.

1999: Christmas

Low stated that their 1999 holiday collection was released as a gift for their fans. And with its rich vocal harmonies and heartfelt delivery, this collection of eight seasonal tunes makes a great gift indeed. Traditional carols like Silent Night and The Little Drummer Boy are given the trademark Low treatment, and luscious harmonies from husband-and-wife vocal team Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker. Low’s rendition of contemporary classic Blue Christmas is also much slower than the original, with elements of the static chord progressions that typify the group’s music. Low also brings along a few of their own seasonal originals, including the evocative Long Way Around the Sea. Christmas is a chilled and moody holiday collection. Whilst it’s not the album to throw on if you’re looking to get your Christmas party started, it makes a great alternative to all those jingling sleigh bells!
