Susan Boyle Christmas Songs & Music

Scottish singer Susan Boyle became a household name after stunning judges on Britain's Got Talent in 2009. Boyle's magical mezzo-soprano voice, contrasted with her unassuming stage presence quickly led to a throng of international media attention. Boyle followed the huge success of her debut album with a collection of carols and Christmas themed music. The album was so long awaited that it topped Amazon's pre-order list within its first twenty-four hours.

The Gift

2010: The Gift

Susan Boyle combines traditional carols like The First Noel and Away in a Manger with some rather unexpected tracks. Leonard Coen’s Hallelujah makes an appearance, as does the Crowded House classic Don’t Dream its Over. Boyle and her choir give these two iconic songs a slow, classical treatment, which works well with the rest of the album, but may have fans of the original tracks turning their noses up. Boyle seems much more at home performing traditional Christmas classics; her rendition of O Holy Night is dreamy, and the Christian hymn Make me a Channel of Your Peace is magical. To promote the release of the album, Boyle ran a competition, giving her fans the chance to perform a duet with her. The winner, Amber Stassi, is featured on the track Do You Hear What I Hear? and manages to hold her own against Boyle and her choir. Whilst The Gift received mixed critical reviews, Boyle’s fans were not disappointed, with the album going either gold or platinum across seven countries.
