A Christmas Letter
Year: 1987
Written By: John Greenebaum, Paul Nelson, Gene Nelson
'A Christmas Letter' was made famous by
multimillion selling country artist Reba McEntire when it appeared
on her 1987 album 'Merry Christmas To You'. As such it has
everything you'd expect from a country number and maybe a little
bit less than what normally appears on Christmas ditties.
'A Christmas Letter' was written by the
songwriting team of John Greenebaum, Paul Nelson and Gene Nelson
and tells a Christmas tale from Santa Claus' point of view. So
rather than the letter going towards the North Pole it is one that
makes its way back to a real world that has slowly lost its sense
of traditional values.
A Christmas Letter Lyrics
At an antique desk
An old man sits alone
It's Christmas Eve
And it's almost time to go
He signs his name to a letter he just wrote
Then he reads it back with a voice as soft as snow
I want peace on earth for Christmas
In a world where there's not one hungry child
They would hope and faith
Conquers fear and hate
All I'm asking for is a little more love
Then he walks outside
And he climbs up on his sleigh
And calls out to his reindeer
Off they fly away
Oh tonight he'll make a million dreams appear
While he wishes that his own dreams would come true this
year
I want peace on earth for Christmas
In a world where there's not one hungry child
They would hope and faith
Conquers fear and hate
All I'm asking for is a little more love
That they would hope and faith
Conquers fear and hate
All I'm asking for is a little more love
