Amid The Falling Snow Christmas Song

Amid The Falling Snow

Year: 2005

Written By: Enya

Enya's glacial voice would appear perfect for songs about winter and Christmas itself. Ever since her 'Orinoco Flow' bedazzled listeners in 1988 she have proven a worldwide phenomenon so it was inevitable that she would dedicate herself to a Christmas album at some point. 'And Winter Came...' duly arrived in 2008 but it was preceded 2 years earlier by a Christmas version of her 'Amarantine' LP, which contained a second disc with 4 Christmas songs. 'Amid The Falling Snow' came from the main album but due to its subject matter it easily falls into the festive category. As ever the song is bathed in lush musical arrangements and Enya's delicately layered vocals. It may lack the thunder of 'Orinoco Flow' but it perfectly approximates the sound of falling snow.

Amid The Falling Snow Lyrics

How I remember sleepless nights
When we would read by candlelight,
And on the windowpane outside
A new world made of snow;

A million feathers falling down,
A million stars that touch the ground,
So many secrets to be found
Amid the falling snow.

Maybe I am falling down.
Tell me should I touch the ground?
Maybe I won't make a sound
In the darkness all around.

The silence of a winter's night
Brings memories I hold inside;
Remembering a blue moonlight
Upon the fallen snow.

Maybe I am falling down.
Tell me should I touch the ground?
Maybe I won't make sound
In the darkness all around.

I close my window to the night.
I leave the sky her tears of white.
And all is lit by candlelight
Amid the falling snow
