Bells Of Christmas Christmas Song

Bells Of Christmas

Year: 1974

Written By: Ron Altbach, Al Jardine, Mike Love

Ten years after their classic 'Christmas with the Beach Boys' collection the Beach Boys set about recording their second Christmas album. It was titled 'Merry Christmas from the Beach Boys' but was never officially released as the bands label (Warner Music) was unhappy with how it sounded. The LP was eventually released as 'M.I.U. Album' and although it featured many of the songs from the first draft their lyrics were completely changed so they didn't sound like Christmas songs at all. Thankfully, many of the original Christmas ditties, like 'Bells of Christmas' (called 'Bells of Paris' on the 'M.I.U. Album'), have appeared on later compilations such as 'Ultimate Christmas'.

Listening now it is hard to believe anyone could have been turned off by the heavenly sound of 'Bells of Christmas'. Featuring some of the glorious harmonies that made the Beach Boys famous it was elaborately put together while still sounding completely unfussy. The calm delivery belied the grief going on behind the scenes but make no mistake this is a true Christmas classic from a band who were equally adept during the freeze as they were in the heatwave.

There are very few covers of 'Bells of Christmas' but one notable version came from Miss OD and the Gentlemen League in 2005 from an album called 'ZE Christmas Record'.

Bells Of Christmas Lyrics

The bells of Christmas go ring-a-ling-ling
They toll for the savior and the peace he'll bring
And little children everywhere are caroling
'Cause the presence of the Lord makes their spirits sing

Oh oh oh oh
Bells of Christmas
Bells are ringing
Oh oh oh oh
Bells of Christmas
Children singing

The bells of Notre Dame cathedral will chime
And everywhere a princely peace
And there they light the candles up one at a time
For the ones they love at Christmastime

Oh oh oh oh
Bells of Christmas
Bells are ringing
Oh oh oh oh
Bells of Christmas
Children singing

The omnipresent spirit of the world will sing
That Christ is born
Oh oh oh
And people of the world are all rejoicing
For the baby Jesus born in Nazarene

The bells of Christmas go ring-a-ling-ling
They toll for the savior and the peace he'll bring
And little Children everywhere are caroling
'Cause the presence of the Lord makes their spirits sing

Oh oh oh oh
Bells of Christmas
Bells are ringing
Oh oh oh oh
Bells of Christmas
Children singing

Oh oh oh oh
Bells of Christmas
Bells are ringing
Oh oh oh oh
Bells of Christmas
Children singing

Ah
Ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah
Oh oh oh oh
Ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah
