Christ Is Born
Year: 1957
Written By: Domenico Bartolucci, Ray Charles
Perry Como is
probably the most renowned artist to record 'Christ Is Born' and
his introduction to it was a remarkable story. His 1964 Christmas
special (it was known as Perry Como's Kraft Music Hall Christmas
Special) was partly filmed in the Vatican after permission was
granted by the Pope. For the first time ever a film crew was
allowed within the walls of the Vatican and Como became the first
ever non-member to sing with the Sistine Chapel Choir. The song,
which was in Latin, was written by the choir director Domenico
Bartolucci and had first been recorded by the Sistine Choir in
1957. Ray Charles would later write English lyrics for 'Christ Is
Born' and Como would commit his version to vinyl for his 1968 album
'The Perry Como Christmas Album' (this time without the Sistine
Chapel Choir). The Carpenters would also use their considerable
charms for their renditionon 1978's 'Christmas Portrait'.
Christ Is Born Lyrics
It is he
Christ who is born today
Hear him crying
In the manger
King of Heaven
Son of God
Alleluia, Alleluia
There he lies
There with the lambkin
Only swaddle for his garment
With his Holy Mother Mary
Alleluia, Alleluia
Glory, Glory to almighty God
And on earth peace to all men
Hear the joyful angels singing
Alleluia, Alleluia
He is born
Let us adore him
Christ the Lord
King of Kings
Prince of Peace
For all the universe
Alleluia, Alleluia
