Christmas For Cowboys
Year: 1975
Written By: Steve Weisberg
'Rocky Mountain
Christmas' was John Denver's first Christmas album and as you'd
expect it contained a mix of traditional and brand new seasonal
songs. 'Christmas For Cowboys' was one of the newbies and was
written by Steve Weisberg especially for the album. You know
exactly what you are going to get with John Denver and 'Christmas
For Cowboys' is no exception. As homespun as is possible it
features his trademark calming vocals and a beautifully arranged
lilting acoustic backdrop.
In 2004 Christian
rock band Jars of Clay recorded 'Christmas For Cowboys' for the
Maybe This Christmas series of compilations. Their rendition was
faithful to the original in almost every respect which was no bad
thing.
Christmas For Cowboys Lyrics
Tall in the saddle, we spend Christmas Day, driving the cattle
over snow
covered-plains.
All of the good gifts given today, ours is the sky and the wide
open range.
Back in the cities they have different ways, football and eggnog
and Christmas
parades.
I'll take my saddle, I'll take the reins, It's Christmas for
cowboys wide-open
plains.
A campfire for warmth as we stop for the night, the stars
overhead are
Christmas tree lights.
The wind sings a hymn as we bow down to pray, It's Christmas for
cowboys,
wide-open plains.
Tall in the saddle we spend Christmas Day, driving the cattle
over
snow-covered plains.
All of the good gifts given today, ours is the sky and the wide
open range.
It's Christmas for cowboys, wide open plains.
