Christmas Is Coming Christmas Song

Christmas Is Coming

Year: 1965

Written By: Vince Guaraldi/Traditional

There have been a variety of songs called 'Christmas Is Coming' from different artists down through the years. The most common version is adapted from an old English rhyme of the same name. Harry Belafonte used this to great effect in 1958 for his 'To Wish You a Merry Christmas' LP. Given the fun lyrics ('the geese are getting fat') it is hardly surprising that the Muppets gave 'Christmas Is Coming' an airing in 1979 (on their album 'A Christmas Together' with their friend from the Rockies John Denver). Miss Piggy took the lead on this one and boy was it a job to get the microphone back off her.

Fans of the Charlie Brown Christmas Special of 1965 may well be familiar with the upbeat Vince Guaraldi Trio jazz instrumental called 'Christmas Is Coming' from its soundtrack.

In 1968 James Brown recorded an instrumental called 'Christmas Is Coming' for the funky gold that was his 'Soulful Christmas'. Although not really Christmas sounding it could still be ideal tinder for kick-starting any festive party.

Christmas Is Coming Lyrics

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat
Please put a penny in the old man's hat
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat
Please put a penny in the old man's hat
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat
Please put a penny in the old man's hat
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat
Please put a penny in the old man's hat
If you haven't got a penny, a ha' penny will do,
If you haven't got a ha' penny, then God bless you
