Give Love On Christmas Day
Year: 1970
Written By: Berry Gordy, Freddie Perren, Christine Perren, Alphonzo Mizell and Deke Richards
Motown Records was first where 'Give Love on Christmas Day' was
recorded. 'Give Love on Christmas Day' is a Christmas song which
came from probably the most famous musical family in the world, The
Jackson 5. The Jackson 5 was an extremely successful family quintet
led by Michael Jackson. This Christmas classic was written by the
label's song writing-producing team, who were known as The
Corporation (this team consisted of Berry Gordy, Freddie Perren,
Christine Perren, Alphonzo Mizell and Deke Richards). The recording
of this Christmas song was intended to be featured on one of The
Jackson 5's album; the album was called The Jackson 5 Christmas
Album.
This Christmas album by The Jackson 5 was released in 1970.This
song was extremely popular when released. 'Give Love on Christmas
Day' was first released in the Philippines and when released, it
was released as a single. It was not until 1986 that 'Give Love on
Christmas Day' was released as a CD single in the United States.
This Christmas classic was released as CD single at the same time
as the release of the first CD version of The Jackson 5 Christmas
Album.
The team that wrote this Jackson 5 hit, who were known as The
Corporation, had beforehand also written many songs for this highly
successful pop group and so the success of this song was another
example of a brilliant display from The Corporation. Example of
hits, which The Corporation had written for the Jackson 5 are; 'I
Want You Back', 'ABC' and 'The Love You Save'.
Both 'Give Love on Christmas Day' and the Jackson 5 album it
appeared on, The Jackson 5 Christmas Album, received very positive
reviews. An example of this can be seen in the magazine Ebony (this
was a popular magazine which was African-American orientated), in
this magazine, journalist Lynn Norment reviews Michaels Jackson's
vocals for both 'Give Love on Christmas Day' and also the rest of
the album. The conclusion Lynn Norment came to in her review was to
describe Michael Jackson's vocals as 'angelic'. Billboard also
reviewed the festive album, and in particular said that both 'Give
Love On Christmas Day' and another song off the album, 'Someday at
Christmas', were 'potent numbers'.
This seasonal track has been covered on numerous occasions, by
artists such as; The Temptations and Faith Evans.
Give Love On Christmas Day Lyrics
People making lists, buying special gifts,
Taking time to be kind to one and all
It's the time of year when good friends are here
And you wish you could give more
Than just presents from a store
Why don't you give love on Christmas day (Christmas day)
Oh even the man who has everything
Would be so happy if you would bring
Him love on Christmas day (Christmas day)
No greater gift is there than love
People you don't know smile and nod hello
Everywhere there's an air of Christmas joy
It's that once a year, when the world's sincere
And you'd like to find a way
To show the things that words can't say
Why don't you give love on Christmas day (Christmas day)
The man on the street and the couple upstairs
All need know there's someone who cares
Give love on Christmas day (Christmas day)
No greater gift is there than love
What the world needs is love
Yes, the world needs your love
Why don't you give love on Christmas day (Christmas Day)
Oh every little child on Santa's knees
Has room for your love underneath his tree
Give love on Christmas day (Christmas day)
No greater gift is there than love
What the world needs is love
Yes the world needs your love
Give love on Christmas day (Christmas day) ...
