Oiche Chiun (Silent Night)
Year: 1816
Written By: Father Joseph Mohr
Eithne Ní Bhraonáin (Enya) recorded her Irish language version of
'Silent Night' in 1988, the same year that she had made an
international breakthrough with her song 'Orinoco Flow'. 'Oíche
Chiúin' appeared as an extra track on the 'Evening Falls...'
single, taken from the Donegal's singers second album 'Watermark'.
Enya's sounds even more heavenly than ever on 'Oíche Chiúin' in
what must rank as one of the most note perfect renditions of a
carol that has been with us for several centuries.
'Oíche Chiúin' has appeared on several compilations as well as
Enya's dedicated Christmas album 'And Winter Came...'. It was also
included on 1997's 'A Very Special Christmas 3', the third is a
series of compilations that benefited the Special Olympics.
