Funny Christmas Songs
The Christmas season is filled with all types of songs and
carols that can fit anyone's taste. However, sometimes funny
Christmas songs are a favourite to lighten the mood and create a
fun and festive atmosphere.
As the years have passed, funny Christmas songs have emerged and in
turn have become classic staples along with traditional carols. The
most popular funny holiday songs tell a narrative that children
most often relate to. "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause", written
by Tommie Connor, is one of the earliest songs in this sub-genre,
that tells the story from the point-of-view of a child. The
youngster in this song awakes to witness his mother kissing the
assumed 'Santa Clause' on Christmas Eve. Another song that follows
this style is "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" which
hilariously depicts the existence of Santa by recanting a story of
how a man's grandmother had a run in with Santa's sleigh. "All I
Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth",written again from the
child's point of view, is a favourite of many children throughout
the holiday season. The Chipmunks have even made the list with
their own original song. "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be
Late)" sung by the fictional group known as The Chipmunks, is now
considered a holiday classic. For the naughty child in all of us,
"I'm Gettin' Nuttin' For Christmas" will always be on the forefront
of our memories.
Other funny Christmas songs are in a slightly different style.
There are those songs that use the same melody of traditional
Christmas songs, but are sung with comical lyrics. Parodies of
"Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" are popular
with children who replace the traditional lyrics with silly ones.
Comedian, Jeff Foxworthy, has also created his own parody of "The
Twelve Days of Christmas", putting his trademark 'red neck' spin on
it. Other parody songs that are found around the internet include
"I Saw Daddy Kissing Santa Clause", "The Restroom Door Said
Gentlemen", and "White Trash Christmas" which are sung to the
melodies of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause", "God Rest Ye Merry
Gentlemen" and "White Christmas" respectively.
Children and adults alike will enjoy these joyful tunes for the
rest of their lives. Although these songs lack a certain prestige,
they remain holiday favourites because of their fun and carefree
approach to the Christmas season.
