In the time of classic contemporary music, many Christmas songs reached that coveted number 1 spot on the popular charts. In the 1940s and 50s we were delighted to listen to such instant classics as, "Christmas In Kalarny", "Frosty The Snowman", "Baby It's Cold Outside", "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". These songs are still enjoyed today and are often heard in many different forms throughout the holiday season.

Later decades brought us chart topping original Christmas songs such as, Carla Thomas' "All I Want For Christmas Is You",  Canned Heat's "Christmas Blues", Bing Crosby's "Christmas Dinner Country Style" and Connie Francis' "Baby's First Christmas", which emerged in the 1960's and the 1970's.

Many of the number 1 Christmas songs have been re-recorded over the years and have topped the charts with different musical artists. There are a numerous amount of updated versions of Christmas songs which have reached number one such as "O Come All Ye Faithful", "O Holy Night", "The First Noel" and "Silent Night".
