Oldies Christmas Songs
Many Christmas songs which are defined as oldies, have certain
religious aspects connected to them. Although these themes of
Christianity are dominant in most carols, not all oldies Christmas
songs are about the birth of Jesus Christ. Either way, these oldies
are here to stay and are still heard throughout the holiday
season.
Many of the oldest Christmas songs have started out as religious
hymns. Although these are extremely old, these songs are constantly
being played throughout Christmas time. Some of these oldies
Christmas songs are, "Hark The Herald Angels Sing", "I Saw Three
Ships", "The First Noel" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen". These
songs have similar stories and themes. Other songs like this are,
"Silent Night", "O Holy Night", "Away In A Manger", "What Child Is
This?", "Angels From The Realm Of Glory", and "Angels We Have Heard
On High", which are mostly about the birth of Jesus.
On the other side of the spectrum, many oldies Christmas songs
are secular, meaning that they do not have many religious teachings
embedded in the lyrics. Some of these oldies Christmas songs
include, "Jingle Bells", "Deck The Halls", "The Twelve Days Of
Christmas", and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas".
