Short Christmas Songs
Short Christmas songs are great for small children who are just
learning to talk. These songs are usually repetitive and do not
have long, drawn-out lyrics that are hard to remember. The short
holiday songs are ideal for a quick performance, or they can be
listened to just like any other Christmas carol.
Repetitive Christmas songs have very short lyrics. "I Saw Three
Ships (Come Sailing In)", written in the 17th century, is the
perfect example of a short Christmas song. This English traditional
Christmas song contains very little lyrics and is extremely
repetitive. Another song which does not contain a variety of lyrics
is the classic holiday song, "Jingle Bells". This song is not made
up of many different verses, but simply contains a chorus that is
sung over and over, changing once during the bridge. Other short
holiday songs are, "Here Comes Santa Clause" and "We Wish You A
Merry Christmas" which also contain repetitive lyrics.
Some short Christmas songs for children are created using the
melodies from other non-holiday songs. This gives small children
the chance to sing short holiday songs that are easy to learn. Most
of these Christmas songs are based on lyrics and tunes that
children are already familiar with. "Twinkle Twinkle Christmas
Star" can be sung by using the melody and most of the lyrics to the
popular song "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". A couple of adjustments
in the lyrics makes this a short Christmas song that children can
easily sing along to. Another example of this process would be "If
It's Christmas And You Know It Clap Your Hands", which is a holiday
variation of "If You're Happy And You Know It Clap Your Hands".
Other Christmas songs that are substantially short compared to
other songs are "O Christmas Tree", "Deck The Halls", "The
Christmas Song" and "White Christmas". These songs do not have many
different verses, with most only having one. These songs are short
compared to the very long Christmas songs which have many verses,
bridges and chorus variations.
Many people can enjoy short Christmas songs due to the fact that
they are easy to catch on to. One can learn the lyrics to these
songs very quickly and they will be joining in on the holiday fun
in no time. Children will have a great time singing these fun and
easy carols with their families, making short Christmas carols a
great idea for family Christmas fun.
